Pte 2091 Patrick Daly U

Patrick was a POW in 1914 https://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?topic=131.msg1008#msg1008
His pension card shows he died 23/5/1920 from GSW Back Bone.
Does anyone know anything more about him?  He has a Service Record on Ancestry.

hiya tim
his wound in the back must have healed properly because he was working in the iron works in germany,there was concern about two of his fingers that were badly  crushed at the iron works,he was also wounded in the right elbow
he was sent to Holland on 14th april 1918 and repatriated home on 12th October,he was immediately given two months leave
he died in his hometown lisduff,county cavan 23-5-1920
do you think it may have been the 4yrs as a POW that caused his death,he must have been very poorly for them to give him two months leave

No doubt the original wounds and period as a POW were terrible for Pte Daly.  I would presume that the "cause of death" is more likely to be the reason for his Pension though.  He died 4 1/2 years after he received the wounds.  Without seeing the DC, it's impossible to know the cause of death and then it will probably be unclear if this was related to his service.  I'll ask IFCPs views to see if its worth looking at a new Commemoration with CWGC.

as I mentioned tim,his back wound must have healed properly because theres no way he would have been able to work in the iron works,the medical report was all about his crushed fingers there was no mention about any of his wounds,i agree with you about a DC,it may not determine if his death was war related,we don't have enough evidence for a commemoration,but we can commemorate him here in our non com roll of honour

Just found another Pension Card saying DofWounds.

The DC says Patrick died from Diabetes, aged 29 at Lisduff, Co Cavan.  His brother Hugh was present.  Patrick's occupation was Labourer.

Update 11/12/2019 - Applied for DC with the prospect that Patrick's death may be a consequence of his wounds.
