My Grandad James Bourke 15834 spent part of his service at this factory but I have been unable to find anything out  about it  He did not see any active service because of he was 48 years old on enlistment   (He had previously served 12 years in the 2nd Batt of the East Surreys in the 1880/90s)  Has anyone in this forum any info about the factory I have written to The Local studies at Kirkintilloch but they have no information

HI Mack

Thanks for your reply, the address in Royton should be Sandhole not Sandyhole  I have tried the national archives and A2A to see if I could find out about Kirkintilloch without success I have James Bourkes 1stww records as well as some of  his service from  when he was 14 and joined the army in India where he was b in 1867

Welcome to The Forum Millsy  ;D

Well done mack you've pulled it out of the bag again  :o Don't know what we'd do without you !!

Millsy, Ancestry.co.uk have his Service Record, and Pension Record online.  I'm attaching the 2 sheets which make up his Pension Record, however you may wish to look at getting a subscription to the site (they offer 2 week trials FOC) as his Service Record amounts to sum 48 pages.

it could be that all memory of the place, has long been forgotten, back in the 80s,tests were carried out,in the area, where the works stood, there was high levels of lung cancer in the area, the people who carried out the tests, said that there were 2 iron works there once, and there may have been a nickel works, but they were not sure.

Thanks Mack and Wendi
I already have his  service records  Some from Kew and the others down loaded from Ancestry I also have  copies of his and his brothers baptism records which I found in the Chaplains returns in the military section of  Find my past  I will still keep on searching and who knows I might strike it lucky one day
