I am searching for information on my late uncle, He was an active member of the manchester association for a period of time. He died in 1992 age 100.

It could be him I no he was shot in the upper leg when he crossed a German trench the bullet passed through he was the older brother of family 3 boys and 2 girles. his father ran the Harp and shamrock pub

 would you have access to his medals?  they would have his service number around the rim

I do not have access to his medels, but my mother at the time believes his number was 78423, but i have looked at his medel sheet on line and it does not list any stars awarded, yet i know he did have at least 1 star

hmmm born 1892, so in 1914 he was 22 unless he was in a starred occupation i can't see why he'd be a late entrant

do you think that might have been an irish pub?    i have a vague memory of a 'harp and shamrock' in Hulme (very vague though)

There is a Harp & Shamrock public house on the 1881 census, address given is 36, New Mount St. (in the ward of St. Michaels)Manchester. But the Clarkson family did not live there then, the Gibbons family were running the pub.

However, William Clarkson appears on the 1901 census.

Thank you for all the information, Janet Clarkson was my grand mother, at the time her farther was the land lord. He did have a 1914 - 1915 star so it would suggest that the number my mother had is not correct and he could be 10275 looking at his medel record he had 1914/15 medel

this william clarkson was discharged from the army on 23-1-1919.
