25th august 1914

the germans were plastering the surface of the road that captain trueman and A.coy along with the 1st east surreys were due to retire down,it was down to the gallantry of signaller whitley who delivered a message to captain trueman that enable A.coy and the east surreys to retire safely via st.waaste.
