manchester boer war memorial errors

does anyone know where the names were compiled from for this memorial,i have a list of men who were killed at ladysmith and some of the names don't tally with this memorial.

these are those listed on the memorial and my findings


does anyone have a accurate list of those who died in the boer war

I think the medal rolls would give an accurate list, I know its a long and weary task to go through them but at least KiA or died is annotated in the comments column.

There are also the Boer War casualty lists on Ancestry, I‘ve no idea how accurate they are though. They are an option in the military section under casualties. Using the filters Manchester and Ladysmith gives you a list as attached.

I didn't know these lists were on ancestry,i think they may have been compiled from the medal rolls because the Christian name initials correspond with the war memorial
which do you trust,the medal rolls or soldiers effects

I‘d go with Soldiers Effects, but if you are looking at the Boer War at the least 1899 & 1900 are not recorded. When did the records start in 1901? there could be even more missing.
