I have recently found a document that relates to my Dad John Walton of Ashton under Lyne being shot on the 25/5/1940.
The bullet wound was in his left thigh. He was given morphine and put into an ambulance and it was not until the 31/5/1940 that he was hospitalised. His left leg was amputated as the wound was infected, dad was always reluctant to talk about this in any Detail.
After the war he was heavily involved in BLESMA and was the Secretary of the Ashton under Lyne branch up to it closing down in the 1970s.
I would like any information available about the incident and would like to know the location of the Battalion on the day he was shot.
Thank you for letting me join the group. David Walton ex RN.
