john henry was a regular soldier when WW1 broke out and was serving in india,at some stage in 1916 his mental health broke down and he was discharged insane on 12th june 1916 and admitted to the county mental asylum Prestwich,he remained there until his death on 9th February 1940,he was 61yrs old,his next of kin was his older brother Edward of 12 Ayton grove,longsight.
he was buried in Philips park cemetery on 14th February.grave ref.I.C.907.

john henry wasnt the only WW1 veteran left to rot in this dismal place,there were at least 100 more poor souls left unforgotten there,its no place for a brave man to spend the last 23yrs of his life
