Post by: 15mb on January 28, 2017, 06:28:58 PM
Hi,  Im trying to find out some more information about my GGF Private 7145 John James Sellers born 1878 5th VB (2nd serv company) The Manchester Regiment.

I have found his name on a memorial at Ardwick Barracks (copy attached) and have found some basic military info on genes reunited (copies attached).

What I do know is that he signed up on the 10th March 1900.

My mother died recently which has led me to do some ancestry research, my auntie is still alive and i would love to give her some more information if anyone can help ?

Many thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,
Have a look at http://www.themanchesters.org/8th%20batt.htm (http://www.themanchesters.org/8th%20batt.htm) for John's initial service in Gallipoli & WWI.  He arrived Egypt 5/11/1914 with rank of Cpl 2335.  Promoted WOII by the time he was transferred to Labour Corps 621561.
Good luck with your research on his earlier service too.
Cheers
Tim
(I'm assuming we have the same John James Sellers here?)

Thanks Tim. It's a very strong possibility, he would have been 36 years old in 1914.  I'll need to find something with his dob on.

The link you provided takes me to an account by private mcclean, is that correct ?

Thanks again this is fascinating.
