Totally random order I'm afraid

Not totally random. Those with rank get a chair.

Not that it helps but the "seated on a  chair row" can be eliminated if one is trying to identify a private.

(it appears everyone on that row has stripes or a pip)

Alas, a lot of similar looking Privates still to go

Hi,

I believe that 3rd from the right on the bottom row is my great grandfather Alfred Oswald (17721)

Hi Romulus
Welcome to the site, thank you for putting a face to a name especially when it's a member of your own family. If you have any other questions or you have any photographs of him you it would be great to see them.

All the best with your research.
Roy
