Title: Corporal Ivor Pollock
Post by: laineeq on August 04, 2009, 05:42:21 PM
I am looking for any information on my uncle Iivor who was killed on 24/5/1940.  His  service number was 3525725, I wondered if the regiment's archives would contain information on when he joined up and the address for his next of kin and, if so, are they accessible to the public? (any information would be appreciated)

Hi laineeq and Welcome to our Forum !

I wondered if the regiment's archives would contain information on when he joined up and the address for his next of kin and, if so, are they accessible to the public? (any information would be appreciated)

Because of Data protection etc, not much public information regarding Army personal is available for WW2.  His service record would be available to his next of kin.  Do you know if he had any children? because if he didn't you could be his next of kin !

Wendi  :)

this is a bit late, but this info will answer the question of Cpl pollocks death.

lieutenant g.m chandler the officer commanding the 9th machine gun company,2nd manchesters was positioned near the la bassee canal on 26th may 1940,at 1900hrs,he was attacked by large numbers of german infantry,he sent his despatch rider back to company HQ with a message, but he never returned,at 2300hrs he sent corporal Pollock to company HQ with another message on a second motorcycle[they had three available in his company]that was the last time he was seen.
up and till the evening of 26th/27th may, capt chandler had received no casualties in his company, cpl pollocks date of death[24th may]is wrong.

L/Cpl 3527686 t.f.e martin was with 13th platoon at riez du vinage near Bethune, along with members of 14th platoon, nothing was ever heard from these two platoons after the action there, its unlikely he was killed over two weeks after the engagement
