Title: Two generations family history in the Manchester Regiment sort
Post by: Frank25 on December 30, 2008, 12:49:04 PM
Dear all

I am new to the Manchester Regiment website and found out about it through tracing the family history.  Please forgive me if I get a few points wrong here but if people can point me in the right direction or provide any information it will all be gratefully received.

I am looking in to what I believe to be two generations of my family who have serviced with the Manchester regiment, Albert William and his farther Frederick William Kendrick.

I am also seeking any information on my Great Grand Farther Frederick William Kendrick b. 13th April 1871.  Who I am lead to believe also served in the Manchester Regiment during the Boar War.  I do not know his service number but I have his service medal from the campaign.  It has two bars attached Tugela Heights and Relief of Ladysmith again any information on his service history and the battles in which I assume he fought or took part would be gratefully received.

all help is gratefully welcome.

Regards

Hi Frank25,
               Welcome to the forum.

You have your Great Grandfathers Medal, have you looked on the rim/edge of the medal as his name rank , number & regiment should be on there.
                                 Hope this will help
                                 John.

John

thanks for the information did not realise the detail was there.

The medal reads 72453 GNR. F. W. Kendrick R.F.A.

I am not sure what the abrevations stand for?

I have a photo of the medal with the bars attached but not sure how to attach the image as the file is greater that the 550KB allowed on the attachment?

Again any advice welcome

Regards

Frank

well that has put to rest a family belief that both farther and son had served in the Manchesters Regiment.

Once again many thanks for your help.

Annie

Thanks for the information about the medal card, thats another detail I had never even considered before but again another detail on his life.

Can I ask is there any way of knowing more about a persons service history such which Company or Battalion they served in etc.   I think you can probably tell my skills at family research are still fairly raw and I have not developed a great deal of expertise at this yet I am only getting a few hours a month to undertake my research.  So again any advice is very welcome.
