1914 - 1918

the 1st battalion was in the 3rd (Lahore) Indian Division

the 2nd was in the 5th Division, then Dec 1915 moved to 32nd Division

8th and 9th were both in the 42nd (East Lancs ) Division

thanks for the swift response.

that's what i've got. i was just double-checking to see if i had my facts right.

for 1939-45, i can only find that the 1st were with the 53rd (welsh) division from 1944, the 8th were part of the indian 10th infantry division and the 9th part of the indian 4th infantry division.

can anybody confirm the above and/or fill in the gaps?

cheers again.

Hi Bigman,
1939-1945
1st Battalion- the original 1st battalion was captured at Singapore, so in June 1942 the 6th Battalion was reconstituted as the 1st Battalion and was placed under the command of the 53rd Division and served in NW Europe.
8th Battalion - was with BEF, then in Malta and then served with 10th Indian Division in Italy.
9th Battalion - was with BEF, then in Iceland and then served in 4th Indian Division in Italy before moving to 128 Brigade with 46th Division in Italy.
Hope this helps.
