Hi - have just found this forum after searching "Mancester Regt" Alderney on yahoo LOL
I am helping a friend research his family tree and it turns out that he has a G-grandfather who came to the Channel Islands with The 2nd Manchester Regt. (at least that's what it says on the marriage certificate so if I have the technicalities wrong please don't anyone take offence :) )
All we have is his name William Arthur Burgess.
If anyone can give us any advice on how to find out more about him, we would be very grateful.
TIA

Thanks - yes the marriage certificate is from July 1906. And as far as I can tell from the writing he was listed as a drummer??

Could the South Lancashire 2nd Battalion have been attached to the Manchester regiment while in the Channel Islands (1904-07ish)? Or any other possible battalions?

Thank you! I have tried doing a few searches on ancestry.com for William Arthur Burgess and there are a few, but none for the Manchester Regiment. So I thought perhaps he was a member of another battalion that may have been attached to the Manchester Regiment while in the Channel Islands. I'm curious about this one because my great grandfather (2nd manchester regt) was married at the same time as WA Burgess, and they married women from the same family. He was a bandsman with the Argyll and Sutherland highlanders for almost 10 years prior to joining the Manchester Regiment so if WA Burgess was a drummer it could be another commonality between them.
