16th Batt POWs

G'day Tis/All,

I have been hiding for a little while, but have just fired up my Database again!

This fella caught my eye due to his Burial Place:

7346 LCpl J A Burns

Noting he was buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetery, and in its descirption it seems to be a collection point for chaps who died within Germany, would he have been a POW? His name is not lised in 'our' POW Database.

any personal effects,were to be sent to miss a smith,98 south st,openshaw,manchester.

So I guess Mack, based on thise details that he made it back to the Battalion somehow? I wonder when, and if he was captured?? Maybe at Manchester Hill??

theres no details or date of his capture,but manchester hill,is the most likely dave.

Another potential POW not listed in the POW database, only due to his burial place. The date ties in with a Manchester Hill capture, but of course, my assumption may be way off!

Both confirmed as PoWs. Burns was captured 23.03.18 at St Quentin and died of a chest infection. Clarke (without an e on the ICRC records) was also captured on 21.3.1918 at La Capelle, he died of a head wound at Zerbst, he had also been wounded in the hand and right lower leg.
