Sydney Albert Lidyard

Is there any information on Sydney Lidyard, Pte 27930.
I found this group photo and suspect my cousin's grandfather is on it, the cap badges look like Manchesters. I've downloaded the only MIC in his name.
I've also attached a photo of him wearing a lapel badge that might be military.
At first glance no-one looks like him, but the front row, far right seems to have his ears and eyes, to me anyway.
He was killed in 1944 in a road accident, it is thought he had the photo on him hence the scorching.

Cheers,
    Dave

they look like manchesters to me! there's a big clue on that top photo, over the shoulder of the guy on the right

but i must say i think that sydney was a LNL man at heart, compare this with his lapel badge

I saw the "clue" but thought it might have just been their home town or something,
there is part of a number above it, possibley a 3, could this be part of the battalion number, maybe meant to be visible in the photo.
There is also that number 2806 in the bottom left.

the 2806 will be the photographers reference, so i wouldn't read too much into that

mandy and me think you should be looking at the bloke in the middle with the moustache

Blimey - I think you're right.
Can you decipher the writing on the MIC?

Well because there's no star there, it would seem he went abroad after 1915, the references next to the medals are the LNL rolls and we haven't got access to them i'm afraid

the bit at the bottom is a bit pixalated but it seems to be a reference to another roll, which i think is a manchester's roll H104, i am not 100% sure but it could be territorial war medal  ???

do another scan of that section and see if you can get it clearer

That's pretty much as it downloaded.
Now I have it in context it looks like:

also on BW & VM  *H/1/104 B38 7682 issued on p 1887 (or 1987) -3 A x

that actually might mean they (british war and victory medal not territorial war medal) are in the manchesters roll, H104 being the manchesters roll

we could do with roys input  ;)

The Medal roll have him as:

27930 Pte Sydney Albert Lidyard 1st Battalion Manch Regt. He is also on the medal roll of the L.N.Lan.Regt. under 29059, S.NO.1887.B?

Is it possible to find out when he enlisted - the story is that he lied about his age and joined when he was 15.
He was born in Q1 1899.
Where would he have fought?

Cheers,
