I'm trying to find out whether anyone has any information for a relative whom served originally
I believe with the 63rd regiment. There was mention of him being in the Crimean war and having
seen the black nurse Mary ?

We think that he came from Newtonwards Northern Ireland.

To add to confusion, the above had a son also called Robert James Whiteside born september 1875
who also served in the Manchester Regiment, we believe he had the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Any information would be greatle appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

There are on the Crimean Medal Roll for the 63rd Foot a:
Pte James Whiteside - Died 29 October 1854,
Pte Thomas Whiteside
Sgt Thomas Whiteside - Died 2 Jan 1855

Not sure this helps.
