My Uncle Norman

My uncle Norman died (or so we are told) in Singapore in ww11. I have a photo of him in uniform and he appears to have a Fleur de lee collar badge and forage cap badge.  His name was Norman Clarke he was born and bred in Manchester.  I never met him except as a 1 year old baby and would like to know more about what happened to him. I would be grateful if anyone could help.

Hi Arthur and Welcome  ;D

The Norman Eric Clarke to which Dave refers was born in the later part of 1919 and his birth was registered in Prestwich, Lancashire.

I'll move your message over to the WW2 pages....

Have a look at his Roll of Honour page at http://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/regiments/Manchester_Regiment/html/c_database_11.htm  He was lost at see when the Hofuku Maru was sunk by planes from an American carrier.
The attached list gives you some web pages that may be of interest.  I don't have his POW Record Card but maybe when he feels better Roy could get it for you from the National Archive at Kew.

Thank you very much.  I'm pretty sure this is my uncle as my brother was named Eric after him. I would certainly like to see any photo's that might show him.  The only one I have is in a family frame and difficult to remove and scan.  Thanks again.
