I am hoping to try and identify Alfred Gest 42240 of the 18th battalion, I have no idea which platoon he was in which may help me locate a photograph? We have none as a family and are trying to see if there would have been a photo taken of him, any help in searching most appreciated!

22nd Battalion C Company 12 Platoon - Platoon Sergeant Fred Barber seated to the left of the officer as we look at it.  Fought all the way through the war with the 22nd Battalion, finishing up in North Italy, returning to Rochdale in 1918, maybe early 1919.  Finished as a Sergeant. No idea how he survived, I can't imagine that many from the original formation did, very glad he did or I wouldn't be here!  He died in 1971.  In the early 1960's he was staying with my cousins family when he started bleeding from the head, a doctor was called and he cut out some shrapnel and sewed him up, it only took 50 odd years to work its way out.
