Thomas Weston 1/10th battalion 375070
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:01:12 PM »
I am wondering if there is any information about Thomas Weston served in the 1/10th battalion of tha Manchester reg number 375070 (previously 969)

I am also trying to find out if the following 2 men served with the Manchesters

John Wiliam Etchells he would have lived on Oldham Road in Royton
John Fallows who would have lived at Campbell Street Oldham

Thanks

hiya pat.
there was a thomas weston living at 5 bankside st,hartford, oldham and john fallows at 40 campbell st,coldhurst, oldham, they were still serving in 1918
theres no john, william etchells, there are about a dozen other men called etchells living in the oldham area in 1918,mostly in the st.peters or st.pauls districts.

there was a john william etchells who was killed in 1917,with the 2/9th manchesters,he resided in ashton

here is Thomas's medal index card, we can see that he was entitled to the 14/15 star, the british war and the victory medal

we can also see that he was in the 1/10th battalion and would have fought at Gallipoli

he was discharged from the army as he was not physically able to fight any more and was awarded the silver war badge

Thanks very much for the info. I still have Thomas in Bankside street up unitl the start of the 2nd world war so he managed to survive quite a bit longer despite his injuries.

The John Fallows at 40 Campbell Street is my Great Grandfather but I have been unable to find out anything about him
