I have just discovered this forum and hope that someone can help with a query. I have found the above details from the CWGC site for one of my ancestors. (By a weird coincidence he died on my birthday.) I was wondering if it was easy to find out more about the circumstances of his death, e,g, if there was significant fighting/shelling on the day he died.

The Son of James and Eleanor of 11, Michaels Street, Pendleton,Edward James Berry was an original member of the 18th Battalion (10608) and deployed to France on the 8th November 1915. He rose to the rank of Acting Warrant Officer (Class 2) before obtaining a commission on the 31st July 1917. He was then posted to the 19th Battalion as a Second Lieutenant. On the Day he was killed, the Battalion were in the trenches in the Ypres Salient in front of Chateau Segard. The Battalion suffered a number of casualties due to heavy artillery and aircraft fire a couple of days before and i suspect he was one of these casualties. He is on this picture (Somewhere !) taken in early 1915.
