26th april hill 60
pte william turner
we made a charge on the hill on 26th april,as we ran across the field,we came under a lot of machine gun fire, men were dropping all over the place,i got hit in both legs by a machine gun,i had six bullets in my right leg and four in the left,me and 3 of my mates, lay in no-mans land, for 3 days and 3 nights, there were several attempts by our stretcher bearers to try and get us in,some of them were killed and they had to go back,my three mates all died from lack of food+water and medical attention,i was picked up by two belgians who carried me back to our lines and dont remember being brought to the base hospital or to england,i woke up in the 4th northern gen hospital at lincoln, and then sent to woodhall spa, horncastle
