No confirmation of CWS link. Joseph Patrick Dignan Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery Second Lieutenant 4th Bn., Connaught Rangers who died on 16 October 1916 Age 27 [Born Q1 1889 Roscommon]. Son of Charles Coleman Dignan and Angeline Victoria Dignan, of Ballinagard, Roscommon.
Regiment: Connaught Rangers Battalion: 4th Battalion Type of Casualty: Killed in action Comments: Att 8/R Innis Fusr [MIC also specifies 8th Bttn RIF]
Enlisted 11524 19th Bttn Manchester Regiment 12/9/1914.  Trained with II Pln, A Coy.  Clerk aged 25y 6m. Hospital at Belton Park for 5 days in May 1915 with German Measles. Discharged from Belton Park, 4th [City] Bttn to Commission 22/5/1915.  Included on CWS Roll in Book of Honour. Preeviously Bank of Ireland employee. "Joseph Patrick sadly met his end on 16th October aged 28, taking part [Shot in Head] in a night patrol." ? Credit Paul Malpas
? Ireland - Our Heroes  "...joined the Manchester Regiment as a private. He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Connaught Rangers. During his service in France he took part in many big engagements, and was attached to the 5th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was educated at St. Bede's College, Manchester." Commemorated ? St Bede's School Memorial with his brother ? Albert Guy Dignan.  Third brother ? Cecil Dignan died in the the 2nd World War having been 2/Lt in South Irish Horse in WWI.

Born 8/2/1887 Wife Margaret (nee Knox) received Effects. Wine & Spirit Merchant in 1911 resident 16 Stockton M Chorlton On Medlock.  Married Q4 1915.
NB Joseph Locker (poss cousin) worked at Broughton and is the chap who may be a non-commemoration.  Will report further when DC arrives.

Regimental Number: 8975 Type of Casualty: Died  XII Pln, C Coy.
Soldiers Effects Specifies William died in a Hospital at Jeumont as a Prisoner of War.  Red Cross Records show he had been captured at Hollebeck on 26/4/1918 still in C Coy. Born St Helens 25/6/1891. Next of Kin Mrs Whittle at 125 Lightbound Road, Moston. In 1911 he was working with his sister as a grocery packer with his sister, resident 396 Moston Lane Moston Manchester. Married Ethel Morrison at Blackley, Holy Trinity on 7/1/1918. ICRC Records show Mrs Whittle resident 125 Lightbound Road, Moston.  He had been captured at Hollebeck on 26/4/1918.

This chap trained with II Coy of 18th Bttn and his number is also 18th sequence.  The Drysaltery Works Roll shows him as 18th Bttn, but CWGC have 21st.  SWARM has an extensive Obit but no Bttn mentioned.  Does anyone know?  Here's my latest-

harry was posted to the 21st manchesters on 30th july 1916 after a spell in hospital with debility,he was wounded in the right thigh on 5th september[gsw].he died in the 38th casualty clearing station on 8th September aged 29.

harry was admitted to the 96th field ambulance on 25th april 1916,he went through 54th and 39th field ambulances and the 9th gen hospital at havre,then to 8th gen hospital before being discharged from the convalescent depot on 30th july when he was posted to 21st manchesters he joined them in the field the following day.

Sorry to be confused.  I initially started posting men that were not confirmed as CWS employees.  I then put 'all' of the possible / certain Manchester Regiment men in, without checking back on the beginning of the alphabet.
