26th January1918

39792 Sergeant James Gaskell. 12th (Duke of Lancaster�s Own Yeomanry) Battalion. The Son of James and Elizabeth Gaskell of 64, New Fold, Upholland, Wigan. A Collier. Previously served as 3825, 5th (Territorial) Battalion. Killed in action on the 26th January 1918 aged 21. Buried in Hermies Hill British Cemetery.

7646 Private George Frederick Chase. A Company, 16th Battalion. Son of Richard Chase (Canada). Husband of Sarah Ann and Father of Ellen, George, Richard and Mary Chase of 12, Woodman Street, Stockport. A pipe fitter at Stockport Gas Works. Previously served as 7646, 11th Battalion. Joined the 16th Battalion on landing in France on the 8th November 1915. Killed in action in the Maricourt defences on the 27th January 1916 aged 33.
Buried in Cerisy-Gailly Military cemetery.

8445 Private Richard Bradshaw. C Company, 11 Platoon, 17th Battalion.  Husband of Mary Ann and Father of Ellen, Emily and Henrietta Bradshaw of 13, Frederick Street, Salford. A cloth porter at J & G Walthew Ltd. Sustained gunshot wounds on the 22nd January in the Maricourt Defences and died of his wounds in the 21st Casualty clearing station on the 28th January aged 31. Buried in Corbie Communal Cemetery.

29th January 1916

10432 Private Robert Makinson. C Company, 12 Platoon, 18th Battalion. Son of Robert and the late Charlotte Makinson of The Gables, Hartley Road, Altrincham. A Commercial traveller for James Heywood Ltd. Wounded by shellfire at Fargny mill on the 27th  January and died of his wounds at the 5th Casualty clearing station on the 29th  aged 30. Buried on the 30th January in Corbie Communal Cemetery by the Reverend A. G Wilcox.
A Memorial tablet was erected in his memory in St Margaret�s Church, Dunham Massey.

10559 Private Ernest Leonard Moss. C Company, 9 Platoon, 18th Battalion. The Son of Eliza and the late William Moss of 532, Gorton Road, North Reddish. A clerk for Sutton and company. Died of wounds received in the Maricourt defences aged 26. Buried in Chipilly Communal Cemetery.

The Son of Thomas and Annie Eckersall of 56, Fylde Road, Great Lever. A Typist in Manchester. A Member of Francis Street Congregational Church and secretary of Farnworth and district billiards league. Died of wounds on the 2nd February 1916 aged 25. (See 17th Battalion History �A Tragic Accident� for report of his death). Buried in Chipilly Communal Cemetery

11790 Private Harold Dickinson.5 Platoon B Company 17th Battalion. Son of Louisa and the late Thomas Dickinson of 35, Heaton Street, Heaton Park, Manchester. A Clerk. Wounded in action 21st January and died of his wounds at the 6th General Hospital, Rouen on the 5th February 1916 aged 20. His mother and Sister travelled from Manchester to visit him before he died. Buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen.
