Hello
i am new to the site and i am trying to find out some information on my great grandfathers. they both fought in the Boer war and First World war with the Manchesters. they were called up as reservists for the first world war. Their names were Joesph Leech and James Taylor and they were from Ardwick. they survived both wars!!
Any information would really be appreciated.
Thank you for your help.

Hello Jel
Welcome, I'm sure someone will be able to help with the Boer War.

This is what I've found for Joesph Leech it's the only one I could find in the MIC.

Description   Medal card of Leech, Joseph F
Corps   Regiment No   Rank
Manchester Regiment   22877   Private
Border Regiment   36309   Private

Date   1914-1920
Catalogue reference   WO 372/12

This could be a possible ???

Description   Medal card of Leech, J H
Corps   Regiment No   Rank
Manchester Regiment   2865   Private

Date   1914-1920
Catalogue reference   WO 372/12

The only problem with James Taylor there are 64 with the same name all served with the Manchester's
Did he have a middle name ??? or do you have service numbers for them ???

Hi Timberman,
Thank you so much for this. Jame Taylor and joseph leech would have been  reservists in the first world war my Great grandma told my mum that the police came knocking and said that both great grandads had to report to Ashton Barracks after work and that was the last time they were seen until after the war. Joesph Leech would have been 36 in 1914 and James Taylor would have been about the same. Also i think James Taylor was injured; my uncle said that he told him he had been shot through the mouth and that he had had some disaplinery problems (but apparently james taylor was a good story teller!!).

I have some photos that belonged to james taylor from the Boer war and i have a picture of him in the first world war.
best wishes
Jel :)
