William Pender, 1st/7th Manchesters
« on: April 15, 2019, 06:49:58 PM »
I'm helping a friend find information about the following man. Does anyone have any additional information (e.g. newspaper accounts)?

Private William Pender (service nos. 1616 and 277763), 1st/7th Manchesters
Died 16/04/1918 at 22nd General Hospital, France, aged 21

Son of Ellen and the late James Pender, of 17 Carver Street, Booth Street West, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester.
His father, James Pender (born Scotland) married Ellen Baker in Chorlton-upon-Medlock in 1893
William was born in 1897 (James (aged 4 in 1901), Albert (aged 2 in 1901)
In 1901 the family were living at 40 Bedford Street, Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Manchester

Thanks in advance
Pete

hiya pete
I don't have access to the newspaper archives, but there were two reports in the M.E.N,one on 17-7-15 this looks like a 4th june casualty list, the other appears to be a memorium notice on 22-4-18

Always happy to help, as most forum members do (with my meanderings too).  The photo is a great bonus.
