Colonel Afhur Axford, 9th Bn

Colonel Arthur Axford (1921/2019) died 15 March 2019.
Arthur enlisted in the army in 1939 and was commissioned in the Manchester Regiment in 1942. His father had served in the 9th Manchesters in WWI and had been wounded  Initially Arthur served with the 7th Battalion in NW Europe where he was wounded in 1945.   Past-WWII he served with the Royal Ulster Rifles in the Korean War 1950/1952..

He joined the 9th Battalion in 1952 and commanded the battalion between 1960  1964.

I remember with great effection Col A Axford,he was my commanding officer when I served as a PSI with the 9th Battalion,my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Colonel Axford,a true gentleman and officer.

Colonel Axford was my first Colonel when I joined the 9th Manchesters in 1964.
