Models for Boer War Memorial; Manchester
« on: April 23, 2017, 12:28:11 PM »
Is anyone able to identify the other soldier who modelled for the memorial alongside Edmund Fisher, please?

I'm doing post graduate research on the sculptor and would welcome this or any other information on the commission, particularly documents/sketches relating to it.

There are some preliminary sketches in the sculptor's studio notebook which I have accessed.

This request is time sensitive as I have to complete my paper by the end of August 2017.

Many thanks

Hi Carin
Welcome to the forum.

Manchester Regiment Memorials

The Anglo Boer War 1899/1902 St Ann's Square, Manchester

Sadly in the write up about the Memorial it only names Captain Edmund Nelson Fisher
as one of the soldiers.

Many thanks, Timberman.

The sculptor added the words 'Foster, 14th Lanc**"' to the studio sketch of the recumbent figure holding up the bullet. The sketch is dated March 1905. The word 'Lanc**' could be Lancers or Lanc(ashire). I think that 14th Lancers were an Indian regiment?
