Francis (Frank) Fitzgerald

It brings me great sadness to announce that my Grandad, Frank Fitzgerald passed away on Tuesday 24th May, 2016 (aged 84).

Grandad had been fighting cancer for a number of years, before finally leaving us peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by close family.

My Grandad was part of the King's Regiment before amalgamation into the Manchesters - and saw action in Malaya, both in battle and the boxing ring.

His funeral will take place on Friday 10th June at Dukinfield Crematorium (11.00am) - and all are of course welcome.

If you have any questions, or would like any more information - please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you,

Matt

Sorry to near your news Matt,
I didn't actually know Frank Fitzgerald owing to the great distances that existed between the various Companies in those days but having served myself in B, then D and ultimately with C Companies and my Sarawak Rangers there is still a feeling of loss at any former member of the Battalion.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family, May he Rest in Peace, Stand Down Old Freind.
George

So sorry to hear of the passing of your grandfather Frank,I knew Frank very well,I trained and boxed with him on numerous occasions when we represented the regiment.Frank was a clever and skillful boxer who won the majority of his bouts. The last time I met your grandfather was at a dedication service to those who lost their lives in Malaya.
I extend to you and your family my expression of deep sorrow and condolences. The memory of Frank will live on

I was really hoping to get in touch with some of his old pals, and seems I have done. Thank you for your words and sentiments, he always spoke very highly of his time in the Army, and of those he fought alongside.
