Missing records Boer War-Horace Littler
« on: April 21, 2016, 02:58:41 PM »

Hello Forum
Thankyou for accepting me.
I think my grandfather was in the Manchesters-maybe during the Boer War. Horace Littler- but I can find nothing about him anywhere but as he was a blacksmith at the time I wondered if he would have been there with horses? I have a small handwritten account in a bible about Caesar's Hill and the Manchester written describing things about January 1900. Can anyone help me to find out anymore about him please?

Hello,

The only match I can find is this.

Cpl. 7915 Horace Littler was in the Cheshire Regiment from 1905 - 1919
He was from Huxley and had brothers Robert & Joseph.  His mother was Elizabeth.  His children were Robert & Horace.

Was a POW in WW1.

Is this him?

:( Sorry Sphinx- this wasn't him. My Horace was born in 1875 in Marston Northwich Cheshire. He married Emily Annie Webster from Leicester and subsequentlyhe married Annie Smith. He died in Ashton-under-Lyne in 1961.
Thanks Sphinx

Rusty,

There is not an H. Littler shown on the medal rolls as serving in the Manchester Regt in the Boer War I am afraid.

If he was there he must have been in another regiment.

Thanks Sphinx

If he was there looking after horses- such as a blacksmith- would he be on the medal roll anyway?

Yes he would.

He was a soldier first and foremost and a groom/mounted duties secondly.
