Hi, I picked up the following Manchester POW's from the Eccles & Patricroft Journal. Unfortunately I don't have their regiments:

The following Manchester Regiment soldiers from Irlam and Cadishead were captured at Guillemont in July/August on the Somme and were being held as Prisoners of War in Dulmen, Westphalia:

- Private William Alldred of Hayes Road, Cadishead (his brother Private Clarence Alldred KIA on 2nd March 1916)

- Private Edward Holmes of Liverpool Road, Irlam

- Private James B Owen of Liverpool Road, Cadishead

- Private Joseph Wrigley of Liverpool Road, Cadishead

Word was later received (November 1916) that the above were being well treated by the Germans. They were receiving letters and parcels from friends without any interference. They were employed doing farm work.

An article celebrating the golden wedding anniversary of Joseph Wrigley and his wife Norah was published in 1974. It says that he was invalided out of the army in 1916 after suffering from the effects of gas. It doesn't mention POW! He played cricket for the Army Team along with cricketing greats Syd Barnes, J. L. Jessop and Quaife of Warwickshire. He was the only private soldier in the team at the time.

Private Joseph Dixon of the Manchester Regiment was taken POW during the German spring offensive in April 1918.

Hope this helps
Pete
