Private John [Pat] Mould
« on: February 08, 2015, 03:32:24 PM »
Hi All,

As already posted on the introductions page, i am researching the War Memorial at Congleton in Cheshire. I have several WW2 casualties who were in the Manchester Regt and i am hoping that you, as a group will be able to help me in tracking down information about them. The first one i am looking at is Private John [Pat] Mould of the 1st Bn, 3534696 who died between 14/2/1942 and 15/2/1942 and is listed on the Singapore Memorial. What i already know is that he enlisted in April 1940, was married to Hilda, lived at 35 Moor Street, Congleton and had a daugther Barbara. From family legend they believe that he was in Alexandra Hospital when the Japanese entered killing staff and patients alike. Is there anyway this can be confirmed and if so can he be tracked to being either killed in his bed or being one of the 400 who were put into a building overnight before being taken out 2 at a time and baynoted or shot?

Any help hugely appreciated

Regards
Mike

I have no record of him being in hospital, but do have a record that he was KIA on 15.2.1942.

Hi Sphinx,

Can i ask what the source is for that please? As i said its only a family myth so if its that he was KIA then that's what i will put down in the research.

Mike, he is listed in the Roll of Honour in  a document available from the Regimental Museum as Presumed Killed in Action 14-15.02.42.  The document is First Battalion The Manchester Regiment Malaya, Thailand, Burma 1939 ~ 1945 Reference MR1/3/1/18. Photo of the Singapore Memorial attached.

Mike see also: http://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/Cemeteries/Singapore_Memorial/
There are links to various other details including the 100 or so killed in the Civil hospital, he is not listed there.
Roll of Honour details on him:
