Pt. 1729 John DANIELS - 2nd Battalion
« on: January 07, 2015, 03:01:00 PM »
Hi pals

I am trying to ascertain whether or not this man - whose name might be the 'J DANIELS' on the Buxton, Derbyshire, War Memorial - was the brother of Cpl. James Esplie Daniels, R.E., who died at home 4 Jan 1919.

John's MIC has him going to France on 8 Nov 1914. presumably as part of the reinforcements after the Bns losses at Le Cateau, the Marne and the Aisne. His MIC also is endorsed "Died" rather than "K.i.a.".

Can any member suggest from his Service Number when he might have enlisted and (basically) anything else about him.

Many thanks as ever

hiya graham
pte 1729 john, edgar daniels had no connection to buxton,he was the son of Richard+marian daniels,47 rostron st,ardwick,he was 21yrs old, killed near wulvergam 28th march 1915.
he was the oldest son,the next brother down to him was peter, who would have been too young to serve
