Alfred Whitehead 22nd Manchester
« on: November 25, 2014, 07:01:28 AM »
I have found Alfred Whitehead 49239 in the ICRC database. He doesn't seem to be on the Manchester Regiment POW list. I can tell from the one record that he was in Friedrichsfeld camp but I can't work out what I think is the camp name written in red on the top of the record number 19921 on the ICRC database. Can anyone have a look and help me?

Hello Diane

PA21290  Friedrichsfeld 12 Apr 1918. 49239 Pte Alfred Whitehead. B Coy 22nd Bn Manchesters. Captured Bullecourt 30.04.1917, uninjured, Western Front.

PA 19921 Schneidemhl 18 Feb 1918 - given as A Coy and previously at Denain.

Schneidemhl is now the Polish town of Pila.

I have added Pte Whitehead to the database, which I am presently reformatting and updating.

Thanks for the quick response.
I don't know an enlistment date for Alfred Edward Whitehead as the only other information I have found is his medal card and medal roll info which list him as receiving the the Victory and British medals (as I would expect based on his regiment number) but don't give any additional information.

He is also listed on PA13030, a list from Limburg dated 28 June 1917. On this list he is given as having shrapnel wounds to both legs.
