Hi Wendy in oz  ;D and a Warm Welcome to the Forum !

I'm attaching his MIC.  He is remembered on Panels 158 to 170 of The Helles Memorial, and enlisted in Manchester.

Do you happen to know his date of birth, or how old he was when he was killed?

Wendi  :)

hi all,
i was on the forum last year, got sidetracked for a while then your website changed and i disappeared off it.  anyway i'm back on now.  here's the info i have on james
-born in 1884
-father is William Henry Fisher who died before 1906 and was a soap manufacturers agent
-James' occupation is a manchester warehouseman and residence at marriage is 9 Farndon Ave Harpurkey(?)
-siblings - yes but no details- maybe a Sarah Jane- a witness at the wedding
-married to Mary Ann Cooney on 24 -11-1906 in Prestwich, Manchester. I have the original wedding cert.
-children Herbert William b.1907, Ethel b.1909, Lily b.1911 and Catherine Amy b.1913(my grandmother)

i have a friend who is going to Turkey soon and she is going to take a photo of James' plaque for me at the Helles memorial.  that's probably the closest thing to a photo i'm going to be able to get.
thanks for your help
i'll be waiting with baited breath for any info you can help me with.  you can only do so much on the internet

Hi Wendy nice to have you back !

Here is a scenario for you, which should be confirmed by certificates, for your research, but here goes anyway:

The birth of a James Fisher is registered in Prestwich March Qtr. 1884 Vol. 8d Page 423.  Prestwickh  being the Registration District for the Blackley area from 1874 to 1896

A William Henry Fisher marries Elizabeth Royle registered in Prestwich June Qtr. 1876

William Henry Fisher b. abt. 1853 death registered in Prestwickh 1888.

Elizabeth Fisher marries Thomas Senior in 1890 also registered in Prestwickh and the family can be found on the 1891 Census thus:

RG12; Piece: 3269; Folio 38; Page 13;

6 Farndon Avenue  :o   ;D Harpurhey

Thomas Senior    36 Shoe and Boot Salesman
Elizabeth Senior 36 Wife
Richard Senior 14 Son
Emily Senior 11 Dau Scholar
Ethel Senior 8 Dau Scholar
William Fisher 14 Step Son Erand Boy (Port)
James Fisher 7 Step Son
Ethel Fisher 3 Step Dau

The family can again be found on the 1901 Census at 9 Farndon Avenue (RG13; Piece: 3775; Folio: 103; Page: 30) with another daughter Elizabeth aged 9 and son Thomas aged 2.

Well spotted harribobs  :D

They should all be "h"es.

All events were registered in Prestwich

Sorry Wendy, hope it did not confuse you too much !

it really depends upon what you wish to find out......

His military history is covered by the look of it.

Have you been able to locate the family on any earlier census ?

hi wendi,
that's what i'll look at next. .everything you've been finding out is new to me.  all my father ever knew about his grandfather was that he was 6 ft tall and that he died at Gallipoli.  he was never mentioned and all knowledge of him has been lost.   thanks for your help
