i can tell you that, he went to france in november 1915 ;)  william was one of the original pals

the main site has a good reference page

mike stedmans book on the pals is well worth reading, also the official history of the 16-19th batts

Thank you so much everybody, yes I´m pretty certain he´s the one you´ve highlighted, none of the others look vaguely like him.   I´m in Spain for a couple of months where I only have a rural connection so I´ll keep logging on if and when I can.  I´m really interested in finding out more about him and will order the book you suggested when I get back.
