Returning POW report below for Capt Hendrie in Forward Zone.

He confirms he was in Forward Zone with Lt Evans, each in command of 2 guns @ 20 yds behind fron front line.  Second in Command, Lt Hilton & Lt Goldsmith were  rear near Battery HQ at Etrelliers and four mortars in the Battle Zone.

A/Cpt Hendrie had received orders that the Germans would have a 10hr bombardment and was then surprised to find Germans to his rear, before there had been any shots fired.  They had advanced under cover of the fog which had limited visibility to 20 yards and the advanced sentries had been withdrwan in the bombardment.  With no means to defend themselves Capt Hendrie saved the lives of his team by surrendering.

Witnesses to dispositions
Pte H Smith 17th Bttn
Pte J ?Smidsome? 20th Bttn
Pte Cowan 2nd RSF

In the absence of 90th TMB War Diary, this is incredibly helpful

Mack,
Sorry, only Pte Swindale was found in the German grave, my mistake. The reference to the German cross is on the concentration record for Pte Swindale.

Pte Bean and Pte Grier were buried 3-400 yards away from Pte Swindale, which to me suggests that all three were probably not killed outright.

Mack,
X.11.b.5.3 is where Pte Swindale was buried. X.11.d.2.8. Is approximately 4/500 yds from where Pte Swindale was buried and 11/1200 yds from Ptes Bean and Grier, see attached.
