I'v had a look at the Army list for you, it looks like he was commissioned 16/3/1945 with an Army Emergency Commission, the start date for his course may have been 16/9/1944 or this date could have been the date he joined up or called up. I could be wrong on this with the dates.

Thank you for all the information you have gleaned, Roy  .  I am looking forward to receiving Dad's service records in about a year's time - hopefully there'll be some more detail there.
