* RIP Jock *
The flowers left thick at nightfall in the wood
This Eastertide call into mind the men,
Now far from home, who, with their sweethearts, should
Have gathered them and will do never again.

Sorry for your loss Les.  May Jock rest in his God's Peace.  A valiant man.

Sad to see an old soldier leave us.  R.I.P.

He must have been born at the end of WW1 judging from his length of service.

His service number indicates he probably enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment first.

Sphinx,
Correct on both counts - 16 Feb 1919. Originally called up at the start of the war but deferred until Nov. Enlisted at Gosport in Nov 39 with the Middlesex then posted to the manchesters. Reason why is so obsure - he was born in Fraserburgh which is 550 miles from Gosport - all his mates went to the Gordons at Bridge of Don in Aberdeen. Still he got his own back when they came back from iceland - they were billeted at Strichen House about 8 miles from where he was born.

Thanks to all for your kind words.
We gave him a good send off. RBLS Grangemouth branch provided a Union flag for his coffin and made up a guard of honour with the branch standard lowered as he came into the crem. The last post was played by a member of Grangemouth Salvation Army and a piper played him in and out. Very moving occassion.
