The 96th Regiment of Foot (The Bendovers)
had a detachment in New Zealand in 1843 and between 184547 most of the 96th Regiment served here  under the command of Lt.-Col. W. Hulme, who in 1845 had relieved Major Bunbury as Commander, British Troops in New Zealand. New Zealand is worn on the regiment's battle honours.
