The 96th Regiment of Foot (�The Bendovers�)
had a detachment in New Zealand in 1843 and between 1845�47 most of the 96th Regiment served here under the command of Lt.-Col. W. Hulme, who in 1845 had relieved Major Bunbury as Commander, British Troops in New Zealand. �New Zealand� is worn on the regiment's battle honours.
