Frank Roberts
« on: January 29, 2008, 04:04:16 PM »
Hi, I'm trying to trace a family member that served in WWI. Is it possible to find out whether Frank Roberts served in the Manchesters? I know he survived the war but the only information I have is a postcard from France during the war which doesn't give anything away.

The reason I think he may have joined the Manchesters is that his younger brother Charles Roberts (13668) joined the 11th Battalion in 1915 and was killed near Hulluch, France in May 1918. A large number of soldiers on the local war memorial joined the Manchesters.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Pete

I forgot to mention, Frank Roberts was born in Cadishead near Manchester. He was 24 in 1914.

Thanks

Chris, I've got a feeling that its Frank Roberts 3357. I found this medal card in an earlier search but it doesn't really tell me anything that would link the two. Frank didn't have a middle name on the 1891 and 1901 Census and he is a definite Frank rather than Francis. Is there anyway of establishing a link? The following is all I know at present:

Frank Hayes born 1890
Born: Cadishead
Family home: 52 Hayes Road, Cadishead Nr Manchester
Next of Kin: Father - Hamblet Roberts; Mother - Emily L Roberts

Thanks
Pete

well Frank 3357 seems to be a survivor

maybe try and trace him from a genealogical angle?
