I am trying to find out more details about my G grandfather William Bell, 2nd Bat, Manchester Reg. KIA 25.3.15, Belgium, Battle of Ypres.  He is not listed on the 2nd Bat site.  Thanks Lesley

Hi Lesley and Welcome to our Forum  ;D

As you probably already know poor William only lasted 9 days in France before he died  :'(  His MIC shows entry 16th March 1915

The son of William and Selina Bell, of Belfast; husband of Sarah Elizabeth Bell, of 3, Aughrim St., Belfast.  He was born in Belfast, enlisted in Liverpool and died aged 36.

Is this the 2nd Bn site you were refering to?

http://www.themanchesters.org/2nd%20batt.htm

The Battalion War Diaries rarely named individual soldiers, only Officers.

I'll move your post over to the WW1 section and see what we can find out for you.

according to the battalion history, "In February and March there was not very much doing but the casualty list continued to mount up and during the last tour of duty in the trenches in March the battalion had 8 men killed and 2 officers and 27 other ranks wounded"

i will have a look at the war diaries to see if i can expand on this

Thanks for all of that information. You have been able to tell me more about him in a few days than I was in months of searching.  My father had information that he had been in the Royal Irish Horse and died on 1st July at Somme which was all wrong and led to alot of confusion.  Maybe thats why because he had joined twice? I will pass info to him. :)
