home front.11th manchesters

pte 7843 martin dooley

pte dooley aged 28,who lived with his wife jane and their 5 children at 4 hardy st,west gorton,left his job as a boiler maker and enlisted in the 13th manchesters,on 13th december 1915,he was shot in the thigh at salonika,while recovering from his wounds,he recieved news that his baby twin girls elsie+charlotte had been admitted to the babies hospital,slade lane,levenshulme
on 28th jan 1916 charlotte passed away,elsie survived a few more weeks but died on the 11th march.
on 16th august 1917,pte dooley now serving with the 11th manchesters,was hit in the back by shrapnel,he died of wounds in the 32nd casualty clearing station in france
he left a wife jane and three children,john,alice and james

Click 4 Martin Dooley's grave stone

Charlotte Dooley was buried on 2nd feb 1916 in Gorton cemetery, roman catholic section, grave numver DD 429
She died age 4 months at the babies hospital, Slade lane, Levenshulme. Manchester.
Elsie Dooley is buried in the same public grave as her sister Charlotte on 15th March 1916.
