I'm keen to identify exactly which one 8643 Private F.S. Harding is. He is one of only two Bury Grammar School Boys commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial for whom we don't have a personal photo. Unfortunately Frederick Harding seems to have fallen through the cracks as far as newspaper obituaries are concerned. Unlike the vast majority of BGS boys there is no obit and photo in the Bury Times. He was born in Whitefield but the family moved to Euxton in Chorley at some point. Searches in the local newpapers covering both these areas have drawn a blank

Hi Mark, apologies for the slow response (holidays). We have only been able to identify two of the men from Platoon 16 and, unfortunately, Frederick Harding isn't one of them.

Sorry we couldn't be more of a help.

Regards
Pete

I am about to write the entry on our Centenary Roll of Honour for Fred Harding. He is one of only two old boys for 1914-16 for whom I do not now have an identified portrait photograph.
