Hi.  Do you have any information about the source of this photograph and list of platoon members particularly the date? I'm presuming it's dated sometime between September 1914 and November 1915 before my serviceman William Whitehead shipped out.

Do we know where - that's quite a distinctive-looking building behind them?
The flowers left thick at nightfall in the wood
This Eastertide call into mind the men,
Now far from home, who, with their sweethearts, should
Have gathered them and will do never again.

Thanks sphinx. Just found this online - apologies if it's been posted before:

It may be possible to identify 9259 Cpl J Wright in the Supplementary Photograph of those men of C & D Companies, which was posted under 17 Platoon, E Company, 17th Manchesters on 8 August 2015 by Tim Bell, as Cpl Wright is the only full corporal listed as being in the supplementary photographs in the rolls of 9 to 16 Platoons, inclusive.  The only corporal in the C & D Company Supplementary Photograph is in the back row, third from the right.

Having said that...., both medal index card and medal roll entries for 9259 Joseph Thomas Wright, 17th Manchesters, list him as a private.  A possible explanation might be that he had been promoted corporal before the 12 Platoon roll was compiled and was then reverted to private before the Battalion went overseas, never regaining his former rank.  It is also worth noting that a total of one corporal, nine lance corporals and 67 privates are said, in the 9 to 16 Platoon rolls, to appear in the Supplementary Photographs, yet only 42 men are in the C & D Company Supplementary Photograph.

Is it 9259 Joseph Thomas Wright third from the right in the back row of the C & D Company Supplementary Photograph?  Maybe.

I know that Spring is probably a bit later in Manchester than in the south but I would have said that March/April was a more likely time for the first photo. There are very few leaves on the trees.
