Date:  Tuesday 11th May 2010.

Title: Manchester Regiment soldiers in post-war Germany and Malaya.

Description: Learn about the life of Manchester Regiment soldiers serving in post-war Berlin before the wall was built and then in the jungles of Malaya fighting communist terrorists.

Date:  Tuesday 5th October 2010.

Title:  Wellington’s Foot Soldiers: The Life of a Soldier in the Peninsular Wars.

Description:  Why not come along to this fascinating talk and learn more about what soldiers wore, what they ate and how they lived, fought and died in the days of Wellington and Napoleon.  You will have the opportunity to wear the type of uniform they wore and handle the type of equipment they carried.  Also, see how their wives lived as they trekked across the continent shoulder to shoulder with their fighting men.

Title:  Tommy Atkins:  The Life of a Manchester Regiment Soldier 1914-1918.

Description:  Did you have a relative that served in the First World War?  If so, why not come along to this interactive talk and learn more about what they wore, what they ate and how they lived, fought and died in the ‘Great War for Civilisation’.  You will have the opportunity to wear the type of uniform they would have worn and handle the equipment they would have carried.

For Further Information:

Each talk is FREE to attend and you do not need to book.  The Museum of the Manchester Regiment and Setantii: Tales of Tameside will be open from 6pm.  The talk will start at 7:15pm.  The talk will last for 45 minutes to 1 hour (until 8:15 at the latest) followed by time for questions/answers and an opportunity to look around both Museums.  The Museums will close at 9:30pm.  For further information please contact the Museum of the Manchester Regiment (0161 342 2254) or email garry.smith1@tameside.gov.uk.
