Hello there i've just joined the forum and i'm looking for any information on my grandad who was in the Manchester Regiment (1st Battalion) WW1. I would be greatful if someone could tell me how and when he joined up as he was from Shepherds Bush London W12/W6.It seems quite strange that he ended up in the Manchesters being from London?.

Hi and Welcome to our Forum  ;D

His medal card confirms him as 1st Bn. and that he departed for  Western Europe on 29th December 1914.

Have you managed to locate him on the 1911 census?

the 1st battalion were in India at the start of the war and arrived in Marseilles 26th September 1914

i suspect he was in the reserves, probably a regular prior to the war, in order to be shipped abroad so fast
