Thanks for that. I did as you said and have found the attached which is obviously his other MIC.  It would appear that he should have two medals from this if I am reading it correctly.

that certainly is correct, he got the victory and british war medal. so he didn't go to war until after 1915, which fits right with the 2/5th

(i wonder what i was doing wrong last night, i couldn't find that MIC for the lfe of me ???)

Thank you for trying, I hadn't had any luck until Mack suggested using James instead of J.

Would my Grandad have been entitled to any campaign medals - if there are such a thing.

Other than getting a copy of the War Diary is there anything else I can find out, such as who he joined with, the names of other men he would have fought with or anything else?

I was just wondering, having seen a number of photo's posted on the forum, whether anyone has a photo of the 2/5th Manchesters, it would be very special for me to see.
