Badge Dating?
« on: September 19, 2009, 02:39:50 PM »
Hi

I posted this originally elsewhere as an answer to another thread.  Sorry!

Two pics of badges are attached.  Can some knowledgeable person date them for me?  I assume the second is an officers badge as it is heavy, and looks like silver and gilt, although no hallmark.

I have been told the non voided badge was Pals, but am very much doubting that now, having read some other posts.  Does it have to be all-brass to qualify as "Pals"?

Thanks! :)

Neil,

You are correct, it is not a Pals badge but it is a non-voided type typically produced during the Great War, I can only assume as an economy measure to speed up the manufacturing process.

The Silver/Gilt Officers badge was in use from 1898 - 1923 on undress forage caps.

Thanks Sphinx!  Very useful info.

Guess I am now looking for an all brass non voided one!

Neil,

That would be a Pals Badge with the original bronze finish removed.
You want one that looks as they originally were, bronzed.

Send me a message if you want one I have 4 originals for sale.
