account of an unknown 8th manchester officer

our trenches sloped down into the knoll,while those of the 6th manchesters,sloped up from the other side,the 5th manchesters were on our right,the consequences were that snipers hidden in the woods opposite the 6th manchesters,could enfilade us,and owing to a kink in the trench,snipers on the other side of the 5th manchesters,could shoot right into our trench,we were losing an average of about eight men killed or wounded every day

If they where losing that many a day, I wonder how long it was before they realized the reason and how many soldiers they lost

i see your point neil,but its difficult to pinpoint exactly where a snipers shooting from,they were all over the place at gallipoli,the 8th manchesters captured one sniper,who didnt use a rifle,he only carried 5 revolvers,this bloke had caused a lot of problems,and accounted for quite a few men,he was captured near the rear area bivouacs
