Manchester's Depot Ashton circa 1900's
« on: August 12, 2009, 05:18:45 PM »
Hi There,

The Manchesters Depot Ashton in the early 1900's
It was later know as Ladysmith Barracks.
Apart from census records would there be any other
documents saying who was posted/living  there about
this time?

Thanks
Swinno

Thousands of recruits, trained soldiers, permanent staff and their families were stationed at Ladysmith Barracks in the 1900s.  Many of these are mentioned in the Depot notes in copies of the Manchester Regiment Gazette.      Copies of these are available on microfilm in the Regimental Archives held in the Local Studies Library, Ashton-under-Lyne.

Many thanks for the lead with the Regimental Archives.
